About the Artist

Chantel Massey (she/her) is a recognized poet, author, teaching artist, educator, and anime lover based in Indiana. She is a 2019 Wintertangerine Alum, 2019 Open Mouth Poetry resident Alum, and 2019 Best of Net Award nominee. In 2018, she published her first collection of poetry, Bursting At The Seams (VK Press). Massey founded the UnLearn poetry workshop series, serving to inspire writers through a Black classic and contemporary arts-centered curriculum. Chantel carries consistent threads� --human rights, Social justice, and the Black experience in her pieces. She explores their depth with a confessional and emotional honesty through the lenses of womanhood, identity, sexuality, spirituality. Massey is on a life-long mission to inspire curiosity, celebration, creativity and challenge we engage with the world in all who would hear. Chantel joined Arts for Learning's roster of teaching artists in March 2020. She was recently awarded the 2022 Beckman Emerging Artist Fellowship from the Indy Arts Council.
