Program Description
Spiritual Folk centers spirituals and folk songs specific to the African-American community to illustrate how composers of African descent weave classical music into their compositions to express joy while acknowledging the strategies employed by African-Americans to overcome historical adversity and exclusion from the classical genre. This performance is a duo between a pianist and a vocalist.
